Connect Claude

The Scrive MCP is a remote server, which is exactly what Claude’s connectors are built for. Add it once to your Claude account and it is available in every Claude surface that shares that account.

Plans and admins

Custom connectors are available on Claude’s paid plans. In Team and Enterprise organisations an Owner or Primary Owner adds the connector for the organisation, and each member then connects it with their own Scrive account.

Prerequisites

• A Claude account on a plan with custom connectors.
• A Scrive account. You will sign in to it during setup.

Claude on the web, desktop and mobile

1. Open Settings → Connectors. On the web that is claude.ai/settings/connectors; in the desktop and mobile apps it is under your profile menu.

2. In the top right, click Add and select Add custom connector.

3. Enter Scrive as the name and https://mcp.scrive.com/mcp as the remote MCP server URL. Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty. Select Add.

4. Select Connect on the new Scrive entry. A Scrive sign-in window opens. Sign in and approve access for Claude.

5. In a new chat, open the + menu in the input box, choose Connectors and make sure Scrive is enabled. Then ask:

   What are the 3 last contracts in Scrive?

Claude lists the Scrive tools under the connector and asks for permission before it runs tools that change data. Keep that on for start_signing, remind_document, cancel_document, start_flow and delete_flow_draft.

File uploads and downloads

When Claude needs a PDF from your computer, for create_document, set_file or add_document_to_draft, a small file picker panel appears in the chat. download_document opens a panel with a download button. Pick or save the file there.

Claude Code

1. Add the server. --transport http tells Claude Code it is a remote Streamable HTTP server.

   By default the server is added to your local scope (this project, only you). Add --scope user to make it available in every project, or --scope project to share it with teammates via .mcp.json:

   No secrets go in the file. Each person signs in with their own Scrive account.

2. Start Claude Code and run /mcp. Select scrive and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the Scrive sign-in; approve access and return to the terminal.

3. Ask:

   List my Scrive documents that are still pending signature.

claude mcp list shows the server and its connection state. To remove it later, run claude mcp remove scrive; to sign out without removing it, open /mcp, select scrive and choose Clear authentication.

Claude Code has no panel UI, so the file picker tools cannot upload from your disk there. Create documents from templates with create_from_template instead.

Troubleshooting

• The Connect button returns without connecting: your browser may be blocking the pop-up, or you are signed in to a different Scrive account than expected. Retry in a window where you are signed in to Scrive.
• Claude asks for an OAuth client ID and secret: see When you need a client ID and secret.
• Tools are listed but every call fails with 401: the token has expired or was revoked. Disconnect and connect again in Settings → Connectors.
• “Rate limit exceeded”: the server allows about ten calls per twenty seconds per user. Claude waits and retries; large batch tasks take a little longer.
• No file picker appears: make sure you are on a current version of the Claude app.
